That’s where you come in! We’re hiring an Art Director to drive visual strategy and execution for Secret Lair—Magic’s experimental, collectible sub-brand. This role is for a creative leader who’s as comfortable exploring new visual styles as they are bringing them to life. Your work will be seen, played, and collected by millions of fans. The ideal candidate is a culturally attuned visual leader and continuous learner, with experience that spans genres - from fantasy illustration to graphic-forward design to stuff we haven't heard of yet. You’ll work alongside a small, passionate team that moves fast and takes big swings. We care about taking risks, spotlighting unexpected talent, and making cards that feel like collector-worthy art objects and resonate deeply with fans. What You'll Do: Commission a steady stream of artwork by sourcing global freelance artists, providing clear, iterative direction, and maintaining long-term relationships Drive, evolve, and craft Secret Lair’s visual identity across all releases Bring visual thinking to brainstorms and early concept work, and advocate for smart, surprising design decisions Review final art files to ensure quality meets Magic and Secret Lair standards and product vision and specifications Collaborate with external IP partners to bring their visual worlds into Magic Work within a team of creatives, producers, and a fellow Art Director - reporting to a Senior Product Lead, Secret Lair - to take each product from concept to release What You’ll Bring : 2+ years of experience in commercial art direction or visual development A portfolio that demonstrates experience commissioning illustration—whether in-house, agency-side, or freelance Strong visual storytelling, taste, and style curation across multiple mediums, genres, and formats A dedication to championing a diverse range of artists through intentional commissioning and support The ability to translate audience taste and cultural cues into visual ideas that connect emotionally Clear, respectful, and diplomatic communication - both in giving and receiving feedback - paired with strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work in fast paced team workflows using tools like Slack, Teams, and content management systems Fluency in Adobe Photoshop; proficiency in Illustrator, InDesign, and Microsoft Office A spirit of curiosity, boldness, and optimism; Secret Lair swings for the fences! The base salary range for this position is $103,200.00 to $167,800.00. The hiring range will vary based on factors such as experience, skills, location and market conditions. Additionally, employees may be eligible for annual and long-term incentives as part of their overall compensation package.
